Christian Garcia is a PhD candidate in the Nutritional and Metabolic Biology Doctoral Program at Columbia University Medical Center. He attended the University of California, San Diego, where he received a B.S. in Biological Sciences in 2014.  He is carrying out his thesis research in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Owusu-Ansah, using Drosophila to study the biogenesis of mitochondrial complex I.  His long term research interests involve uncovering novel proteins that regulate this process to help shed light on the mechanism of patients with severe mitochondria complex I diseases.  His work is supported by the NIH/NIGMS Kirschstein NRSA F31 Fellowship.  Christian is also the co-founder of the Columbia Mitochondria Club and has served as a mentor for SMRI.
